Name – Jamie Boyd

Job Title – Managing Director

What does your role at Today Team involve? – A little bit of everything at times, which is what keeps it interesting. Sales, marketing, people, operations, growth, finance. I’m also actively looking for another acquisition opportunity, following our first one in 2023 (so if you’re looking to exit, please get in touch)

What do you enjoy most about working at Today Team? – As well as the variation above, I love the challenge that comes with growing a small business and love the sector we’re in. The demands of urgent logistics isn’t for everyone but I’m at home here.

What’s the most important skill for someone in your role? – Not sure if it’s a skill or a quality, or both? But resilience is key when running a business, challenge is a massive understatement at times and I often wonder if I’m not right in the head, or brave, or a bit of both? Either way, I just get on with it whatever is going on.

What do you think sets Today Team apart from other courier services? – Clients tell us it’s our reliability which is something we work hard at and is part of values – we do what we say we’re going to do.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received in your career? – “Smooth seas do not make skilful sailors” – Anyone can do it when it’s easy, it’s when things get difficult, that you learn the most.

What’s your go-to karaoke song? – Ohhh great question as I love my music, I’d have to go for Goodbye Stranger by Supertramp

How would you describe yourself in 3 words? – Hard-working, reliable and often hungry (I know more than 3….)

What’s your favourite way to spend a day off? – What’s a day off…? When I do get a minute, love getting out on the bike down the TransPennine Trial, followed by some good food and a few cold IPA’s

If you could have dinner with any celebrity (dead or alive), who would it be? – Another great question… would have to be the great Winston Churchill, I’m sure it would be a cracking meal and a few drinks, followed by a nice cigar.

If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? – Easy one – a nice full English, thinking more nice hotel than greasy spoon though.

Thanks for taking the time for this Jamie. It’s nice to get to know you better!
