Today Team’s New Brand Identity Signifies Change of Direction
What better way for Today Team to mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter than with a rebrand! The North West-based same day courier company has revealed its new-look headquarters and fleet, which features designs developed by Neave Creative and Vign-a-Sign.
The rebrand signifies a change in direction for Today Team – now in its second decade of trading – and coincides with a refresh of the company website.
“We’re in our twelfth year of business and, as time has gone on, we have developed our service to ensure we’re doing the best for our customer base,” says Managing Director Jamie Boyd.
“We do not wish to be a faceless national company, or to detract from our core offer by providing additional services from across the very broad spectrum of logistics. Today, we are making the positive choice to embrace our identity as the leading North West-based same day courier serving the UK.”
The task of encapsulating this new direction in a brand identity was placed in the very capable hands of Oakmere-based graphic design agency Neave Creative.
Having met proprietor Phil Neave at the Alchemy chapter of Business Network International (BNI) UK – and being suitably impressed with the quality of his work – Jamie commissioned Phil’s expert services.
“Our main colour used to be red, but we wanted a totally new look and feel, so we switched to blue,” says Jamie, who used to step out in primrose and blue as an ex-Warrington Wolves player.
“For many of our time-pressed customers, we are the ‘fourth emergency service’; therefore, it felt natural to go with a colour that many people associate with blue flashing lights.
‘I also love the directional arrow on the ‘T’ of ‘Today’, as it shows that we are moving forward, but it also cleverly points back to the start. For me, that’s a nice metaphor for the journey we have been on’
The process of developing the visual identity of the brand took around three weeks, with Today Team being continually consulted every step of the way.
Phil Neave said: “With projects like these, our starting point is always: What is the reason for rebranding? Today Team felt that their old identity no longer represented them as a business, plus they wanted to increase their clientele and revenue.
‘Our research showed that in brand terms, the industry has a very ‘corporate’ feel; however, we wanted to differentiate Today Team and show why they are unique.
‘It became clear to us that the brand should revolve around the ‘T’ logo, which is a nod to the past – representing the journey Jamie has been on – as well as the progress he has made to get to where he is now, and the vision he has set for the company’s future. We are extremely happy with the outcome and are continuing to work with Jamie and the team to build the brand, as well as to develop marketing material that will get them noticed.”
Once the brand identity was finalised, the next task was to implement it with new signage across the whole organisation – from the reception area at Today Team’s Risley headquarters, through to the vans transporting deliveries. For assistance with this, Jamie recruited Lymm-based Vign-a-Sign, who are committed to offering high-quality signage at an affordable price.
“On average, a busy vehicle can be seen more than 3,000 times an hour, so it was essential to get our vehicle graphics right,” explains Jamie. “I always choose to work with Warrington businesses wherever possible, and I knew we’d be in safe hands with Joe Carlin and the Vign-a-Sign team.
‘We were presented with six design options for the new livery for the vehicles and, like every other decision we make at Today Team, we settled on the final one following a group discussion. I am delighted with the end result, and it was a very proud day when we sent the new-look vans out on the road for the first time!”
