Today Team Walk Over Hot Coals for WDP
When you’re in the middle of a heatwave, most people are trying to find ways to cool down. Not the same day delivery superstars of Today Team, who on Saturday braved a barefoot walk over hot coals reaching more than 550 degrees Celsius!
Whether fearless, crazy, or both, it was all done in aid of Warrington Disability Partnership (WDP), a user-led charity supporting disabled people and those with long term health conditions across Warrington. It was certainly hot and nerve-wracking, but nothing compared to the daily challenges faced by those living with disabilities.
WDP provides information on peer counselling, equipment, personal assistance, transport, access, employment, education, training and a range of other services. It has over 30 years experience of developing and delivering mobility and independent living services.
This was the 3rd Charity Firewalk organised by Today Team, and as previously, hosted by Scott Bell of UK Firewalk, twice Guinness World Record holder for the ‘Greatest Fire Walking Distance’. Scott began by briefing the walkers at 3pm, with an introduction to the history of firewalking, and preparing them for the challenge ahead. Our thanks go to Scott once again for ensuring we had a great event, and that all our fundraisers came through the challenge unscathed!
We were also joined on the day by Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Mo Hussain. 12 firewalkers took part on the day, including 5 Today Team members; Jamie Boyd, Lee Turner, Kim Higgins, Claire Johnston and Tom Mackenzie.
Today Team’s Founder and Managing Director Jamie Boyd lit the fire, and once it had burned to red-hot embers it was raked level and prepared for the walk. Supported by friends and family, all of our walkers successfully completed the challenge, one made even more difficult by the weather, with temperatures hitting 31 degrees!
As Jamie said; “It was a great day, and I’m really proud of the team members who took on the firewalk challenge on Saturday, as the conditions certainly didn’t make it any easier. They all rose to the occasion and I’m delighted at the amount we’ve been able to raise for WDP so far, as it’s a fantastic charity, and one I’m proud to have been involved with over the years.”
Congratulations go to all of our fundraisers, whose efforts at time of writing have raised £2,000 for WDP.
The JustGiving page is still live, so if you would like to reward our firewalkers, and help to support his fantastic local charity, there is still time to donate via https://justgiving.com/page/today-team-firewalk-2025.
