Take on the Today Team Charity Firewalk Challenge
On Saturday 12th July, Today Team will be hosting a Charity Firewalk at Walton Hall Gardens, Warrington, WA4 6SN.
The event will raise money for Warrington Disability Partnership (WDP), supporting disabled people and people with long term health conditions across Warrington.
Our Firewalk will be hosted by Scott Bell, twice Guinness World Record holder for the ‘Greatest Fire Walking Distance’, who will explain the history of firewalking and the technique behind it. Then, to the beat of the drum, it will be time for our firewalkers to take up the challenge. These fearless fundraisers will be walking between 15-20ft over coals at 550 degrees Celsius!
All donations and money raised at the event will be going to WDP, a user led charity which aims to relieve the needs of disabled people, their families and carers in England and Wales, through actively promoting independent living.
WDP provides information on peer counselling, equipment, personal assistance, transport, access, employment, education, training and a range of other services. It has over 30 years experience of developing and delivering mobility and independent living services.
Today Team Managing Director Jamie Boyd is a long serving board member of the Disability Trading Company (DTC). As a business we have supported WDP fundraising efforts through corporate sponsorship of events and via other fundraising activities such as sponsored skydiving.
Jamie explains the importance of the Charity Firewalk:
“I’m proud to be involved with such a great charity and organisation, led by Dave Thompson. This will be the third Firewalk Today Team has held on their behalf, and if it’s as good as the first two, it’ll be a fantastic event, and one I’m really looking forward to.
If you haven’t done a Firewalk before, it’s a brilliant experience, and I’d encourage you to give it a go! All support on the day and in terms of donations to the WDP will be very much appreciated.”
The event starts with a briefing at 3:00 pm and the Firewalk will start at 4:00 pm. Tea and coffee will be available for participants and guests.
Every step taken and pound given will go towards supporting someone else’s independence. Our fundraising goal is to raise £5,000 via a £50 target for each of the 100 participants.
If you would like to take part in the event, please register your interest by emailing kim@todayteam.co.uk. Participants will be welcome to bring their friends and family to support them as they take on the challenge!

Today Team Firewalk FAQ
WHAT IS A FIREWALK?
The participants will undergo training of around one hour. When the fire has burned to red-hot embers it is raked level and prepared for the walk. Participants go to the fire – remove their footwear and one by one are invited to walk the coals.
IS IT A TRICK? No. The fire is very real. The embers will be glowing red-hot – we can often measure the temperature at around 1200 degrees Fahrenheit. You will have bare feet, and they will not have been treated in any way.
WILL IT HURT? The sensation is described by some as walking on eggshells, others as walking on hot sand. Each walker has his or her own experience. I have not known walkers to experience pain, indeed when the opportunity arises many will walk across the coals more than once.
