A Special Delivery for Creating Adventures’ Christmas Celebrations

Christmas preparations have brought an unusual collection request our way: two red velvet thrones, waiting in Birmingham for a lift to local Warrington charity, Creating Adventures.
The chairs will help set the scene for the charity’s Christmas party for adults with autism, learning disabilities and complex needs. And getting them there involved a Facebook Marketplace find, a LinkedIn introduction and a generous offer from the seller.
From a LinkedIn appeal to a collection in Birmingham
Creating Adventures founder Jenny Allcock was looking for Christmas props after an event company that had supported the charity in previous years was unable to help this time.
She spotted a red throne on Facebook Marketplace that looked perfect for the celebrations. There was just one problem: it was in Saltley, Birmingham, and the charity needed help collecting it.
Jenny put out an appeal on LinkedIn, hoping a courier company might lend a hand. Her contact and supporter Dave Ditchfield saw the post and brought it to the attention of our Managing Director, Jamie Boyd.
Jamie got in touch and offered to arrange the collection and delivery free of charge.
Jenny said: “I was hopeful to get someone but thought it was a huge long shot so I’m absolutely over the moon.”
There was another welcome surprise when Jenny explained the story to Adeel, the seller from Witton Shoes Limited. The chairs had originally been advertised at £100 each, but he reduced the price of the first to £75 and offered the second free.
That meant Creating Adventures secured both thrones for £75 rather than the original £200, with transport taken care of too.
Two thrones, ready for Christmas
With the arrangements confirmed, our driver Gusha collected both chairs from Birmingham and delivered them to Creating Adventures, helping move them into the charity’s storage unit.
At 178cm tall, these were certainly a little different from the usual kind of chairs we might move!
Jenny later shared her thanks on LinkedIn, describing Gusha as “so helpful and friendly” and explaining what the delivery meant for the party. The charity now has a throne ready for Santa Claus, who will be joined by Mrs Christmas, as well as festive photographs with members.
Jamie Boyd, Managing Director of Today Team, said:
“When Dave pointed me towards Jenny’s post, I was happy to help. We had the vehicle and driver to get the chairs where they needed to be, and it’s great to know they’ll be put to good use at the Christmas party. Thanks to Gusha for looking after the collection and helping Jenny get the thrones delivered safely.”
