Meet The Team – Tom
It’s that time again, as we interview another Today Team colleague and find out more about their role, and what makes them tick. In the hot-seat this time, it’s Tom, our Senior Logistics Co-ordinator
Tom manages customer enquiries from when they arrive in our inbox, and has a fantastic bit of advice to share when it comes to customer service.
Aside from his role at Today Team, we’ve also found out a bit more about Tom, with family and sport being important parts of his life outside of work.
Name: Tom MacKenzie
Role: Senior Logistics Co-ordinator
What does your role at Today Team involve? – As Senior Logistics Co-ordinator, I help manage customer requests in the inbox, from quoting to direct bookings. I also do this over the phone, as well as taking payments from our non account customers. I am also cross skilled on the controller role, which is dealing with the drivers, making sure the jobs are executed correctly and meet the customers needs.
What do you enjoy most about working at Today Team? – Everyday is different. There is always something new and different challenges to meet the customers needs. We could have a request to collect and deliver a set of keys, and then the next minute we get a request for machinery parts which need to be delivered by a Hiab. Most of all I enjoy working with all my colleagues, we have a great team here which makes it enjoyable to come to work every day.
What’s the most important skill for someone in your role? – They are many different skills needed, but the most important one for me is being personable, to be able to build a good relationship/rapport with customers, drivers and colleagues.
What do you think sets Today Team apart from other courier services? – The values of the company. We deliver on our promises to our customers.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received in your career? – Imagine yourself as the customer. Do everything possible and all the things you would expect if you were the customer, and give that service.
What’s your go-to karaoke song? – There are too many to choose from after a few drinks! But Use Somebody by Kings of Leon and Angels by Robbie Williams always go down well!
How would you describe yourself in 3 words? – Loyal, easy going, funny.
What’s your favourite way to spend a day off? – Spending time with friends and family, going on a day out with my partner and daughter, playing golf, watching the mighty Derby County!
If you could have dinner with any celebrity (dead or alive), who would it be? – Denzel Washington, he’s been in a lot of my favourite movies, so it would be great to talk to him about them.
If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? – Very hard to choose one specific thing, but it’s hard to beat a good roast dinner.
As a key part of our customer-facing team, it’s crucial that colleagues like Tom are able to empathise with customers and uphold our values at all times.
Thanks to Tom for answering our questions, and we agree, it really is hard to beat a good roast dinner!
