Isabelle Nickson is an apprentice Logistics Coordinator at Today Team . We caught up with her to learn about her experiences, get a glimpse into her typical day, and hear about her future aspirations.

My typical day as an apprentice at Today Team starts early. I wake up, get dressed, and have breakfast with my mum before heading off to work. I aim to arrive at the office by 08:45, giving me 15 minutes to settle in before my official workday begins. I like to be punctual and ready to start my day on a positive note.

When I first get to the office, I log into my emails and the various systems we use. My initial tasks involve checking emails and reviewing any quotes from the previous day. I also look at outstanding purchase order numbers, which I follow up on after our morning stand-up meeting. This daily meeting helps align the team and ensures we are all on the same page.

As an apprentice, I have a range of responsibilities. I chase customers for purchase order numbers, handle inbound sales calls, follow up on first-time bookings with delivery information, and work to obtain positive Google Reviews. Additionally, I contact suppliers to get updates on the collection and delivery status of customer orders. Each day is busy and varied, but I enjoy the challenge.

Since starting my apprenticeship, I’ve gained numerous skills, including organisation, time management, and working under pressure. I apply these skills daily by using my to-do list and notepad to keep track of tasks and ensure I complete everything on time. One common challenge I face is working out the correct vehicle sizes for customers. Drawing the dimensions of the goods helps me overcome this obstacle.

One of the highlights of my apprenticeship so far was completing a 12-week block of college in January, which significantly aided my assignments with the knowledge and notes I gathered. I’m also proud of starting my college project and seeing my progression. Achieving distinction levels on my assignments has been a significant accomplishment for me.

As the day ends, I lock my screens, tidy my desk, and check my diary for the next day. I have a checklist that helps me go through the jobs booked for the following day, ensuring I’m prepared. After a busy day at work, I unwind by going to the gym and spending time with friends and family.

Looking to the future, my goal is to progress within my role at Today Team. My experience here has opened my eyes to what I can achieve and learn in just a year. I’m excited about the potential for further growth and development.

For anyone considering an apprenticeship, I highly recommend it. My experience has been incredibly positive and has helped me develop essential day-to-day work skills. It’s a great way to learn and grow professionally.
