Rugby injury to award-winning courier company
At the beginning of 2005 Today Team wasn’t even an idea, but there are some similarities between the first half of that year and the second half. The first half was all about getting a rugby ball quickly and safely over the rugby field try line and the second half all about getting clients goods delivered quickly and safely to their destination.
Following a serious knee injury that ended Jamie’s (our founder) professional rugby league career, the idea of Today Team was born. Did he have any experience? No. Did he have any money? No. Was he going to let that stop him? No. Are we named after Jamie’s favourite TV show while growing up? Yes. (That’s the A-Team of course)
It was the Princes Trust who gave Jamie a helping hand with a £3000 loan that enabled him to rent a van, put some fuel in it and hit the open road looking to find some clients. The first 18 months took Jamie all over the UK and Europe and gave a great insight in to the fundamentals of being a courier and what’s important to clients with their critical deliveries.
Quite quickly, Today Team had built up a great reputation and solid customer base in and around the North West and we’re proud to say a lot of those early clients are still loyal to us today. It wasn’t long before a full nationwide service was rolled out to cope with growing demand.
We’ve developed considerably since those early days, we’ve moved offices 4 times due to ongoing organic growth, we’ve successfully delivered tens of thousands of important deliveries from tiny but very important packages to huge pieces of machinery that needed special equipment to ensure safe delivery. Oh, and we won a national CIPD award for the investment and work we’ve done around growing our people.
We’re extremely proud of our journey from ‘man and a van’ bootstrap start-up to leading North West logistics business and that might be enough for most companies, but for Today Team? We’ll press on and continue to be the trusted link between our clients and their important delivery points. While we’ve had a great journey since 2005, we’ve very much focused on the road ahead, not the rear-view mirror.
If you’re looking for a business that cares about getting things right first time for its clients, then look no further. Today Team, the trusted link for hundreds of UK businesses.
