For a Cheshire-based client producing bespoke equipment for HVAC engineering and construction projects, the delivery requirements can vary considerably from one job to the next.
One consignment might be compact enough for a small van but require particularly careful handling. The next could involve a tall, heavy or awkward piece of equipment that needs the additional capacity and loading support of a Luton tail-lift.

“We’ve worked with this customer since 2011, so we’ve built up a good understanding of the equipment they produce and what each delivery needs. The priority is always to choose the right vehicle and make sure the equipment is looked after from collection through to delivery,” said Today Team Managing Director Jamie Boyd.
Why dedicated transport matters
Although Today Team is best known for same-day and time-critical courier services, speed isn’t the only reason this customer requires a dedicated vehicle.
Many of its deliveries are planned in advance. The dedicated requirement comes from the bespoke nature of the equipment and the extra level of care and attention needed during transport.
With a direct delivery, the equipment remains in the same vehicle from collection to destination. It isn’t transferred through depots, moved between vehicles or carried as part of a wider groupage network.
This reduces the number of times the consignment needs to be handled and gives the customer greater control over how and when it reaches the project.
“A lot of the equipment we produce is bespoke and intended for a particular project, so we need to know it will be transported properly,” said a spokesperson for the company.

A delivery to a busy London project may involve restricted access and a tightly managed delivery window, while larger equipment may require suitable unloading arrangements to be available when the vehicle arrives.
