Acquisition of Speedy Courier Services – 2 Years On

While May saw Today Team celebrate its 20th anniversary, we hit another milestone this month, as it’s now two years since the acquisition of Speedy Courier Services.

The founder of Speedy Courier Services had approached Today Team founder and Managing Director Jamie Boyd, as she was looking for a new challenge. With growth being a key objective of the business, and acquisition a clearly identified option, it made sense to explore the opportunity.

The fit was a good one, with both businesses having been built from the ground up by committed logistics professionals. Just like Today Team, Speedy Courier Services had an established operation in the North-West, while offering a nationwide same day courier service.

The acquisition process itself was therefore straightforward, with Today Team easily able to onboard existing Speedy clients with the same level of professionalism and quality service they had come to expect. Initial work was focused on making this operational transition as seamless as possible, while also swiftly putting a new website in place.

Initial success and further growth planned

As we reflect on the two years since the acquisition, it has clearly been a great success, with thousands of deliveries completed for many satisfied customers around the UK.

Jamie reflected on the integration of Speedy Courier Services into the business over the first two years:

“The acquisition has been a fantastic success for us as a business, with former Speedy clients now firmly embedded as Today Team clients. We’ve received excellent feedback from them with regards to access to a bigger business and more extensive service offering. The level of support we’re able to provide has been welcomed.

After our initial investment in acquiring the business, including the website, its early success has meant that we are now ready to invest in it further, bolstering our online presence through the Speedy Courier Services brand, with plans in place for further marketing efforts and website development.

We’re also investing in the wider Today Team operation, including our management team, software and systems, all of which will enable us to better serve both historical Speedy clients, and those who come to us through Speedy looking for help with their same day delivery requirements.”

With the acquisition being so straightforward and a continued success story two years on, Jamie is also keen to look for the next opportunity as part of the company’s ambitious targets:
