The end of drink driving?

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced that they are working on two new technologies that will prevent your car from starting if you’re drunk. The technology will detect if your blood-alcohol level is over the legal limit and prevent you from driving if you’re over the legal limit.

At an event in Washington DC, the NHTSA revealed the two prototypes which they have been working on. One is a sensor which will be located in either the steering wheel or the drivers side door, that can detect your alcohol level by your breath; basically a breathalyser. The other is a touch sensor, located on the gear stick or ignition switch that will scan your blood-alcohol level.

This new technology could prevent thousands of accidents in the U.K alone which would also help bring down insurance costs and save many lives.
